Wonderful Wednesday #02

This Wonderful Wednesday is jam packed full of wonderfulness, so let’s just crack on  with it!

 Watching Bake Off with Friends

Last Wednesday I popped over to a friends’ house at university (we live 3 minutes apart, yaaaas!!) and after a long old natter it was time for Bake Off. Unfortunately, the weather was making her TV signal play up and it meant four of us had to huddle around her laptop (which had broken sound) to watch ‘Bontanical Week’. Even though it wasn’t the most comfortable way to watch Bake Off, it was funny to see the lengths that we would go, just to watch it. Oh and the fact Selasi wore a flowery t-shirt made me love him even more.

Unexpected Sunny Days

Actual warm days in October are always a welcome surprise, not because I plan on going out and enjoying the sun, no no no, but because it means I can actually hang my washing outside in the garden. When did I turn into that kind of adult!?

Afternoon Naps to the Sound of Rain

As a contradiction to the previous entry, the most magnificent downpours in Canterbury happened last Saturday afternoon. Luckily, I was tucked away in my cozy little room, with the candles lit and heating on, so it provided the perfect soundtrack to fall asleep too. Granted I was meant to be doing my seminar readings, but we’ll just ignore that little fact right now.

One Step Closer to Becoming Olivia Benson

So if you don’t know who Olivia Benson is you need to get out now. idolise Lieutenant Olivia Benson (Law and Order SVU for those who don’t know!) and when I grow up I want to be just like her. Now that dream is one step closer to becoming a reality as I have an interview with the volunteer organisation’Victim Support’, a charity based on giving help, support and advice to victim and witnesses of crime. The interview is next week, so fingers crossed!

Student Perks

While I loath university, the perks of being a student are pretty decent. 10% off in Superdrug, up to 40% off in certain restaurants (me and my friend Chloe went to Zizi’s for dinner on Monday, three courses came to £11!) and the biggest perk of all!? FREE brand spanking new, 2016 Microsoft Office Software. I genuinely didn’t know that this was a thing and while it’s probably not the most exciting news in the world, it’s definitely an improvement on the old school 2007 software I have been using. HURRAH for free things!

Almond Dream Salted Caramel Dairy-Free Ice-Cream

Ever since I have turned dairy-free I have struggled with finding a suitable ice-cream recipe that doesn’t involve coconut (hey world, sometimes us dairy-free people don’t like the taste of coconut in every-bloody-thing!) . There is a good dairy-free ice-cream available in most supermarkets, Sweedish Glaze, however they only do vanilla and sometimes you want an ice-cream that’s a bit more adventurous yano? I know Ben and Jerry’s have a vegan ice-cream selection they have released in America, but they are taking their sweet ass time bringing it over here to the UK. Until then I will have to make do with this heavenly Almond Dream Ice-Cream instead. I purchased mine from Ocado as I had a money off voucher, so I am unsure if you can get it from other retailers. If you are dairy-free of vegan then you need to hunt this baby down cause OHMYGAAAWD it’s so damn good, especially served with brownies straight from the oven.

Reminiscing Over Old Facebook Photos

Back when I was 18 I volunteered in Kenya for a month in local HIV clinics, Orphanages and Schools. The experience was a kind of up, down, crazy rollercoaster, but overall I have great memories from it. With everything that goes on in life, past memories aren’t always in the front of your mind until you are given a little reminder of them in one form or another. That is what happened last night when one of the volunteers from Kenya who looked after us commented on my old Facebook photo from my time in Kenya. At the time I was doing coursework, so it was nice to stop, pause and reflect, remembering the funny, scary yet amazing memories of my time in Kenya (photo above taken from the Safari I went on).

  • Selasi’s GBBO shirt last week was a thing of beauty! Well worth making the happy list. And those sunshiny couple of days were utterly spectacular weren’t they? Definite good ‘drying days’ as my ma would say. Hope the rest of your week is filled with more wonderful little moments
