Like most of my university essays, I had to write the introduction to this post, last. My mental health has taken a bit of a nose dive for the past couple of days, mainly due to tiredness, stress, shark week (my favourite way to describe TOTM) and general lack of motivation for anything. I wanted to skip this week, feeling like I didn’t have anything positive to say, but after just tip-taping away, I’ve actually had some pretty wonderful things happen, despite what my brain, and the sorry state it’s feeling at the moment, is telling me.
Exploring with the boyf
My boyfriend David came down last week for a few days and we spent some time in the sunshine, exploring. On Thursday we went to London, where we saw PRINCE CHARLES (Charles and Camilla drove right passed us), and on Friday we ended up having a drive around the Kent coast, starting at Dover and making our way towards Broadstairs. The weather was glorious both days and it’s got me truly excited for all the adventures that I plan on having this summer.
Learning new things
At university, I volunteer as a peer mentor for two first-year students, one of which is from Bahrain. After meeting this week and helping her with her assignments, we started talking about her home, her family and what her life was like growing up in the Middle East. My knowledge on that part of the world is extremely limited, so it was really interesting to learn about how she practices Islam, the Middle East and her transition into western culture. I feel very lucky to be in a position to learn so much from different walks of life, and I always want to strive to continue learning and asking questions.
The smell of banana bread
Chocolate chip banana bread, to be precise. Right now, as I type this, I have the smell of banana bread wafting from the oven, filling the house with the most amazing scent. I had some bananas leftover from last week, at that perfect brown speckled stage, so thought an evening baking session was in order. Out of all the cakes/brownies/cookies that have ever left my oven, banana bread will always win at the ‘best smell’ awards.
