I am all about that travel life, airports are my happy place, but a staycation is something I can really get on board with. I’m fortunate enough to live in a place that people want to holiday in, and while I’ve spent the last couple of years trying to explore as much as my home as possible, there is still so much of Devon that I am yet to visit. Not to mention Cornwall, Dorset and Gloucestershire – and that is just the South West!
While the Great British weather can be somewhat off-putting, which is why in the past I have opted for guaranteed sunshine abroad, there is so much of the UK that is worthy of an explore. From forests to lakes, coastlines and highlands, the UK is vastly brilliant but overlooked. So here is an ode to the UK and all of the stunning scenery that makes up my UK travel wishlist.
Living in Devon means coastlines are in my blood, and with so many fabulous areas to choose from where I live, it means all the other beautiful coastlines that the UK has offer gets pushed aside. However, Dorset is high on my agenda with Durdle Door and Brownsea Island looking gorgeous.
This is alongside the beautiful Anglesey and Llandudno, as I would love to do a North Wales road-trip and explore more of what Wales has to offer. There are so many great places in Cornwall to explore too, but Kynance Cove is a must. To paddle in the Cornish sea this summer would be a dream. Finally, I’m shouting out to my home county Devon, including the prestigious Salcombe, a picture perfect village along the south coast.
I am more of a quaint village girl than a city girl, hence why Dunster and Stow-on-the-Wolds are must do’s, however there are some many diverse cities in the UK that are on the list too. I’d love to visit Cambridge and go punting along the canals, and explore the rich history of Oxford. Alongside a Welsh road-trip, I’d love to visit Scotland, starting in Edinburgh and perhaps on the way back down I could pop over to York and walk around that magnificent Cathedral.
Ever since visiting Bavaria, my holiday tastes have changed, now, I opt for nature over city breaks. Europe has some magnificent scenery, but there is also some amazing places here in the UK too, waiting to be explored.
Take The Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales for example. Both beautiful national parks right here on our doorstep. A little further afield are The Shetlands, Isle of Lewis and Isle of Skye. I have heard fantastic things about all three Scottish Islands, all having their own charm and character. Finally, somewhere a little closer to home is The New Forest. Imagine visiting in the autumn when the leaves are changing? Perfection.
Finally, the UK is blessed with some incredible castles. Of course there is Windsor, but Warwick, Dartmouth and Leeds Castle all look impressive too. St Micheal’s Mount has been on my bucket list for a while, a castle in the middle of the sea that you can walk to if the tide is low. Then finally you have Bodiam. A proper medieval castle with a drawbridge. A drawbridge!
So that was everything on my UK wishlist, what’s on yours?
